The Canines of Kashmir

Aren't we supposed to let sleeping dogs lie? Guess it's no different in the Himilayas.

Special thanks to Bill Haneberg for these photos of the dogs of Kashmir.

Himalayan Street Dogs

Bill Haneberg, (see "Their Four Dogs," below), has generously sent photos from his trip to Kashmir. I'll be featuring these Himalayan canines over the next few days. As Bill explains, ". . . they're definately not pampered pets." If any of you have photos of dogs taken on your travels, please feel free to send them along. My email is nita(at)nitasweeney.com. Replace the "at" with @.

Their Four Dogs

See! I promised more dogs! Since their's four, will that count for four days??

Lisa, these dogs' brave Mom, is at the MFA program with me. Her husband Bill sent the photo along with the following information:

"From the upper left, they are Pako, Black & White Dog, Venus, and Jet (all from Seattle). Pako was on the verge of being the animal shelter by a neighbor when we adopted her, Black & White Dog had been abandoned in the desert south of Albuquerque, Venus is a husky mix from the animal shelter, and Jet is a standard poodle who will be 15 in early September."

Now that's a well-behaved pack!

I Know! I Know!

I know! I promised more dog photos soon, but Mr. Olympus isn't cooperating. I took a photo of a lovely little shitzu-ish mix named Cosmo down by the fountain in Port Townsend yesterday and when I tried to load it up, Cosmo was nowhere to be found.

There are dogs here at Fort Worden, but so far I've neither had the time nor the inclination to shoot them. Director of the MFA program, Paul Selig, has his silky terrier, Darla, with him, but I've yet to get her in pixels. Tomorrow? Maybe.

Of course, you folks out there could come to my rescue and send cute dog photos which I could post ASAP. Hint. Hint. Where are you dog people when I need you anyway?

The Dogs of Port Townsend

No photos yet. I keep leaving my camera in the Admiralty View Guest Studio where Ed (my husband) and I have been staying since our arrival in Port Townsend, Washington on Wednesday, July 11. But there is a lot of dog potential here. I sat in an outdoor cafe yesterday and watched no less then ten canines stroll around with or without their owners. Soon. I promise. More dog photos soon.

Nice Try Dude

I stole this photo outright from Dog Blog. Jon posts photos he takes of dogs he sees in San Francisco. Of this photo he says, "The thing that makes this picture for me isn't just the flying ears on this captain, it's the bird I managed to catch in the opposite corner: 'Nice try, dude. Nice try.'"

Big, Brown & Beautiful

"Eddie, the chocolate lab," his human Mom says, ". . (age 2.5 and holding), is not the easiest dog to love. He eats things he shouldn't and chases when he isn't supposed to do so. Alas, like "Marley and Me," he teaches us a lot of lessons, including the value of loving the most unlovable."

Magoo

Magoo's human Mom says, "My dog really is the cutest! He is currently 6 months old and is a mix between a german shepherd, a chow chow, and a husky...And we love him very much." Magoo lives in Upper Arlington, Ohio.
